The Master of City & Regional Planning (MCRP) program is fully accredited by the Planning Accreditation Board, a joint accrediting body of the American Institute of Certified Planners, the American Planning Association, and the Association of Collegiate Schools of Planning.
The MCRP degree is the recognized basis for a career as a professional planner.
The Georgia Tech Student Planning Association (SPA) is the active extracurricular organization which allows students to explore opportunities that can benefit themselves, their school, and their community.
Professional development is always encouraged with SPA. The association provides the official student link to the state (Georgia Planning Association- GPA) and national planning organizations (American Planning Association- APA). One result is that planned professional speaking events are facilitated via SPA. Specifically in 2005, SPA has helped organize their members traveling to San Francisco for the national APA conference.
SPA also volunteers to support their City and Regional Planning department. Typically this includes helping to coordinate activities such as the Fall Reception, Thanksgiving Potluck Dinner and Spring Open House. Furthermore, several students in the past have been actively involved in Georgia Tech campus governance.
As a group SPA also takes pride in supporting our larger neighborhood. Most recently this has included participation in Hands on Atlanta and Habitat for Humanity community building events.
Last but not least, the Georgia Tech SPA looks to have fun. Within the past year, we have sponsored an introductory social at the local Braves baseball game, a pre-game on-campus tailgate and a winter bowling party.
