The Data and Policy Analysis Center (DAPA) was established in 1992 to provide a primary source of data and policy-relevant information for those working with poor communities within The Atlanta Project. The Atlanta Project (TAP) is former President Carter's domestic poverty project, affiliated with the Carter Presidential Center. Under the guidance of Dr. David Sawicki, Georgia Tech City Planning professor, DAPA's overriding goal is the democratization of information - providing a fact base to less advantaged people and communities who have been historically denied access to vital information. The center works both within TAP and with public and private clients outside TAP. Specific DAPA objectives include providing data, interpretation, and mapping of demographics and related information, support for planning and community development, and policy analysis and research. Contracts include HUD, The Georgia Policy Council for Children and Families, the Urban Institute, the City of Atlanta's Empowerment Zone, The City of Atlanta's Hartsfield International Airport, and the State of Georgia's State Data Center.
