Graduate Studio on GM Doraville Vehicle Assembly Plant

Doraville Studio

In the Fall Semester of 2006, the Georgia Tech Graduate City and Regional Planning program conducted a master’s level planning studio to investigate redevelopment strategies and prepare framework plans for the GM Doraville vehicle assembly plant, which is slated for closure.  The goal of the studio was to provide the City of Doraville and its citizens with ideas, strategies, and evidence for the creation of a strong and viable plan for the GM site.

This studio was led by City and Regional Planning Professor Nancey Green Leigh and Adjunct Faculty John Skach.  Urban design associate professor Richard Dagenhart also provided additional design consultation.  The student members of the studio were Susan Cohn, Marc Dixon, Kenwin Hayes, Miguel Granier, Dave Pierce, Rick Liu, and Samantha Singer.

Below you will find links to the final documents prepared by the studio team.  If you have any questions, please email Dr. Nancey Green Leigh at NGLeigh@coa.gatech.edu or Dave Pierce at dave.pierce@gatech.edu.

Executive Summary: A ten page document highlighting the findings of the studio.

Final Report: The full report containing ideas and strategies for redeveloping the GM site.
