Employment and financial aid
The College of Architecture doctoral program often supports students through research and teaching assistantships. As you discuss the program with relevant faculty members, you should inquire about the availability of such support. For 2006-07, assistantships cover tuition and provide a stipend of $12,500 annually for a 20-hour-per-week assistantship.
In addition, students may qualify for a variety of financial aid opportunities. Information on aid, including loans, is available from the Institute's Finanical Aid Office. Most types of financial assistance at the graduate level are merit-based rather than need-based. Here is a sample of some aid opportunities:
- Out-of-state tuition waivers (allowing non-Georgia residents to pay resident tuition fees) are awarded on a competitive basis to selected students in their second year of study.
- Minority students and women are eligible to participate in the Regents’ Opportunity Scholarship Program. These are renewable awards for residents of Georgia for two semesters of study.
- The Graduate Co-op Program is a certificate program that provides both master’s and doctoral students the opportunity to include specialized paid work experiences in their graduate studies.
- Several fellowships are available, including President’s Fellowships, President’s Minority Fellowships, and Goizueta Fellowships.
